ISLAMABAD: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has temporarily suspended its flight operations to Canada for essential aircraft maintenance.
According to a PIA spokesperson, the airline’s long-range Boeing 777 aircraft used for trans-Pacific flights require a complete technical inspection and replacement of key parts. The process will take about three weeks.
These aircraft can fly for up to 17 hours nonstop, and this major maintenance is mandatory every ten years to ensure their fitness and safety. The airline said the move is aimed at preparing the planes ahead of the expected surge in passenger travel in the coming months.
PIA has apologized to passengers for the inconvenience but emphasized that passenger safety and aircraft readiness are its top priorities. The spokesperson added that PIA is taking every possible step to make travel safe and comfortable, and flights to Canada will resume as soon as the maintenance is complete.
