United Nations General Assembly approves resolution on two-state solution for Palestine

The United Nations General Assembly has passed a landmark resolution supporting a two-state solution to the Palestine issue, aiming to establish lasting peace between Palestinians and Israel.

The resolution, jointly presented by France and Saudi Arabia, was approved by an overwhelming majority on Friday. A total of 142 countries voted in favor, while only 10 opposed it. Interestingly, the United States, Israel, and 11 other countries chose not to vote.

This seven-page declaration emerged from an international conference co-hosted by France and Saudi Arabia in July. It calls for urgent efforts to create a safe and sustainable peace based on the two-state solution.

However, Israel rejected the resolution, refusing to accept the idea of a Palestinian state. Just a day earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu approved a new controversial settlement plan in the occupied West Bank, which further complicates the peace process. Netanyahu stated, “This land is ours, and there will be no Palestinian state here.”

Despite Israel’s stance, the global support for a two-state solution is growing stronger, especially from Arab and European countries, who continue to advocate for the rights of the Palestinian people.
