The government of Pakistan has decided to introduce major changes to the design and color of national passports.

According to sources, the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports has received formal approval from the Ministry of Interior to modify the colors and design of public, official, and diplomatic passports.

Under the new design, each passport category—public, official, and diplomatic—will have distinctly different colors to make them easier to identify.

Sources said that one of the key changes in the new passport is the inclusion of the mother’s name alongside the father’s name, in line with international standards to make personal identification more clear and comprehensive.

The new passport will also feature images showcasing Pakistan’s rich cultural and historical heritage, including landmarks such as Lahore’s Shalimar Gardens, Mohenjo-Daro, Khyber Fort, and the Mazar-e-Quaid.

Sources further revealed that the printing process for the new passports has already begun. However, the new design will only be officially launched after the existing stock of one million old passport lamination papers is fully utilized.

Officials added that the updated passports are part of efforts to modernize the system and align it with international standards, incorporating advanced security features to enhance the global credibility of the Pakistani passport.
