KHAIRPUR: Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has announced a major gas discovery in Khairpur’s Sawan Field, according to news. PPL described the discovery as a significant step forward for Pakistan’s energy sector. The find opens new opportunities for exploration in the region and confirms the accuracy of the company’s geological model.

For the first time, PPL used a special evaluation approach while drilling the well. The deep well, located in the northern part of Sawan, reached a depth of 14,017 feet. Testing confirmed gas reservoirs of 0.30 MMCFD. The discovery was carried out under a joint venture, the company said. PPL has informed the Pakistan Stock Exchange about the new gas find.

This discovery follows another major development last month in Sindh, where Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL) reported a new oil and gas find at the Mari Ghazij CFB-1 exploration well. Drilling at the well began on September 12, 2025, reaching the Sill formation at a depth of 1,195 meters.

Testing of the well produced 305 barrels of oil per day and 3 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMSCFD), at a pressure of 225 psi. MPCL confirmed this is the second successful oil-producing well in the Mari Ghazij area, where the company holds 100% operatorship. CEO Faheem Haider called it a major achievement and said exploration will continue to find more hydrocarbon reserves in the region.

In addition, the Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) announced new oil and gas reserves in Sindh. The company reported a gas/condensate discovery from its Faakir-1 exploratory well in Khairpur district. OGDCL operates the well with a 95% stake, while Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL) holds the remaining 5% in the joint venture.
