LAHORE: Caretaker Punjab government has imposed Section 144 in Lahore with immediate effect as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) prepares to hold public rally on Sunday in connection with upcoming general elections in the province.
Addressing a press conference, Information Minister Amir Mir said that the government has imposed Section 144 in Lahore with immediate effect, citing terror threat and beginning to Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches in the provincial capital.
Earlier, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Lahore contacted the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf(PTI) leaders and refused to give permission for the rally.
It is a very sensitive day due to traffic. If PTI does not postpone the rally, there will be no other option but to impose Article 144.
On the other hand, Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf(PTI) leaders denied the deputy commissioner’s contact.
Former federal minister and PTI leader Hammad Azhar said Deputy Commissioner Lahore did not contact PTI in this regard. He said preparation for the rally is underway.
Hammad Azhar said PTI will hold the rally as per the schedule and also announced the rally route.

He said the rally will take a route from Zaman Park to Iqbal Road (Garhi Shahu), Railway Station, Brandreth Road, Circular Road, Shah Alam Chowk, Lohari Gate Chowk, Urdu Bazar Chowk, Bhati Gate Chowk and will end at Data Darbar Chowk.
