William, the son of King Charles III, participated in his first formal event as the Prince of Wales on Sunday. During a phone conversation with Mark Drakeford, the First Minister of Wales, Prince William, 40, mentioned that he and his wife, Kate, are eager to visit Wales shortly.

In a statement issued in both English and Welsh by Kensington Palace, Kate’s husband William acknowledged his and the Princess of Wales’ honor at being chosen to serve the Welsh people. Also thanked the First Minister for his fitting tribute to the monarch.

The statement added that the Prince and Princess will “spend the months and years ahead deepening their relationship with communities across Wales”.

It said that the couple “want to do their part to support the aspirations of the Welsh people and to shine a spotlight on both the challenges and opportunities in front of them”.
