Media targets Meghan Markle, Prince Harry over docuseries
London: On Friday, the British media, which has received the most of the criticism for the Netflix documentary “Harry and Meghan,” retaliated against the estranged prince and his wife by charging them with lying and insulting Queen Elizabeth II.
The first three segments of the show, which aired on Thursday, primarily avoided discussing the royal family in favour of concentrating on Harry’s early life and his animosity toward the media, which he attributes to the passing of his mother Diana.
However, the prince did charge the family with unintentional racism, and the royals will be ready for next week’s episode, which hints at further disclosures.
The saga dominated Friday’s newspaper front pages, which were overwhelmingly scathing of Harry and Meghan, who are officially known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
The Sun, a well-known tabloid, dubbed Harry “the Nasty” and stated that the couple had “trashed the Queen’s legacy,” left King Charles III and Prince William in a “state of sadness,” and unfairly painted the entire nation as racist.
The newspaper, along with many others, focused on one scene in which Meghan gave a histrionic curtsey when recalling her first encounter with Queen Elizabeth II.
“How low can you go?” asked the tabloid, adding that “mocking Meghan exaggerated a curtsey to poke fun at the royals — and compared their traditions to a tacky US medieval chain”. (AFP)
