King Charles bestowed the title of Duke of Edinburgh on his younger brother Edward on Friday, fulfilling the intentions of the late Queen Elizabeth II and her husband, Prince Philip.
Philip, the last holder of the title, had always wanted Edward to inherit it.
The DofE was created to challenge young people aged 14 to 24 to meet standards of achievement and endeavor in a wide range of active activities—to serve their communities, have adventures, and develop and learn outside of the classroom.
Since its beginning, participation in the prize has increased year after year.
In more than 130 nations and territories, over one million young people are currently working towards their Bronze, Silver, or Gold Awards.
