You might initially assume there would be a knife but possibly a pocketbook, an umbrella, some needlework, a stray hardboiled egg, and in The Queen’s case, a marmalade sandwich.

It appears that Her Majesty carries a penknife in her trademark Launer purse, among other things, and not for the reason you might think. Phil Dampier, a royal specialist and the author of “The monarch’s insistence on carrying a penknife is a “Throwback to her days as a Girl Guide,” according to the book “What’s in the Queen’s Handbag and Other Royal Secrets”.
