Dr. Affan Qaiser’s apology to Maria B sparks criticism

Dr. Affan Qaiser, a renowned Pakistani Transplant Hepatologist and Gastroenterologist serves in Pakistan’s largest Liver Transplant Programme. Many Pakistani social media users admire him for the informative health videos he posts on Facebook and YouTube. With over 3.5 million followers on Facebook, Dr. Affan Qaiser is known for reviewing trending videos. Recently, he has also launched podcasts on his YouTube channel, which has 200k subscribers.

Lately, Dr. Affan Qaiser appeared on Farrukh Warraich’s podcast, where he apologized to Maria B for his previous video against her.

Talking about it, he said, “I am embarrassed on the video that I made against Maria B. I felt bad after talking against Maria B. I was told by the friend and Islamic Podcaster Ali that things about Maria B are different. I personally like Maria B too, I got a video against her from my research team. I made a video that went in millions, the target was not Maria B. I condemned her on her previous stance. So, Ali talked to me and said that now things are different, Maria B is associated with them and has been actively doing work for the intersex community. It is the only video after which I felt embarrassed because she is now a very different woman. I would like to admit that I was wrong. She has now changed and how she has been settling Maria B. On the other hand, severe public backlash is being directed towards Dr. Affan Qaiser’s apology video because social media users believe that the most harmful video by Dr. Affan Qaiser was regarding farmers or fruit vendors who inject food color into watermelons. They argue that it was baseless and harmed the fruit vendors.
