Amjad Sabri’s son slams channels for their ruthless behavior after his father’s death
Amjad Sabri, a prominent Pakistani Qawal and Naat Khawan was born in 1970 and tragically shot dead in Karachi on June 22, 2016, during the month of Ramadan. He was the son of the famous Qawal Ghulam Farid Sabri and the nephew of Maqbool Ahmed Sabri from the renowned ‘Sabri Brothers’ alliance. His exceptional singing skills made him a celebrated Qawal across the Sub-continent. Today, his son, Mujaddid Amjad Sabri, continues to carry on his legacy.
Recently, Mujaddid, Amjad Sabri’s son, appeared on “Hansna Mana Hai”, hosted by Tabish Hashmi. During the show, he discussed how mainstream electronic media treated them ruthlessly after his father’s death.
“Yes, we experienced this exploitation from mainstream channels. They would call us for interviews and ask shallow questions. When we returned home, their vans would be waiting outside our house. Not only that but we were always surrounded by people as well. I know it was their love, but we had no private time. Once, I even called out a famous channel’s anchor, but he deleted that part from the interview. When he asked me, ‘Do you remember your father?’ I responded, ‘Is your father alive? I will ask about him when he is no more. We moved to Lahore just to avoid the limelight and exposure.”
