According to European Club Association chairman Nasser Al Khelaifi, the European Super League would not be recreated.

Despite fan outrage and opposition from the football authorities, the breakaway competition collapsed within 72 hours of its official launch last April, its backers at Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Juventus remain convinced that the project is not a failure and that the European game is in desperate need of reform.

The likelihood of income for clubs increasing by 40% in the next Champions League cycle from 2024, according to Al Khelaifi, the president of Paris St Germain, who rejected invitations to join the league last year, proves the plotters were “wrong on every single point.”

“In terms of the non-Super League, it doesn’t exist,” he stated at the ECA General Assembly in Vienna on Tuesday. Neither the first (version) nor the second (version).

“Everyone is against it, including fans, the media, and clubs, both small and large.” There are only three (clubs).”

From 2024, the ECA and UEFA, the governing body of European football, will form a joint venture to sell commercial rights to club competitions, which Al Khelaifi has previously described as a “tectonic shift” in the dynamic between clubs and the confederation, giving clubs greater control over their destiny.

The revenue from Europe’s club competitions is expected to reach five billion US dollars (£3.8 billion) per season in 2024-27, up from 3.6 billion US dollars (£2.7 billion) in the current cycle.

“The weird thing is, they (Barcelona, Real, and Juventus) like playing in UEFA competition now,” Al Khelaifi continued. They are having a great time competing in the best competition.

“I don’t think they’ll be able to accomplish something like this (resurrect the Super League) since we’re all here together.”

“We found our togetherness here at the ECA in 2021 – how we’ll be together, working as one family, and looking after one another.” That, I believe, was the major goal, and we achieved it.

“Now we’re looking at the possibilities and what we can achieve in 2022, one of which is the enhanced value of UEFA competition, proving to them that they’re incorrect and that we’ll continue to grow.”
