BENGALURU: In the report submitted by International Cricket Council (ICC) Match Referee for the game, Javagal Srinath, the surface for the second Test between India and Sri Lanka, which ended in three days, received a below-average rating.

As a result, the ICC Pitch and Outfield Monitoring Process will award the venue one demerit.

In the report, Javagal Srinath said: “The pitch offered a lot of turn on the first day itself and though it improved with every session, in my view, it was not an even contest between bat and ball.”

Match referees award one demerit point to venues with below-average pitches, while three and five demerit points are awarded to venues with poor and unsuitable pitches, respectively.

On the first day of the Test, bowlers dominated the action, taking 16 wickets in total, nine of which were taken by spinners. Sri Lanka were 86/6 at the end of the day after knocking India out for 252.
