LAHORE: When asked about playing in front of his home audience in the final of the three-Test series tomorrow, Babar Azam was speechless. Babar feels confident in his team’s ability to win the historic series against Australia.
Azam’s home field, Lahore’s Gaddafi stadium, will host a Test for the first time since a horrific terror assault on the Sri Lankan team bus in 2009 forced Pakistan to suspend international cricket.
“I can’t explain the feelings,” said Azam on Sunday.
“You have a different feeling when you play on your home ground and before your home crowd.
“I see a result here and if we win, against a major team, it will mean a lot and a proud moment for us.”
The pitches in Rawalpindi and Karachi did not help the spinners sufficiently, but Azam is optimistic that the pitch in Lahore will be more accommodating.
“I feel it will definitely give turn. It has small cracks from where spinners get help and patches are formed,” According to Azam, uncapped leg-spinner Zahid Mahmood might be used to help slow-bowling duo Nauman Ali and Sajid Khan.
Babar Azam, Pakistan’s captain, has backed southpaw Fawad Alam, who is yet to produce a notable performance in the ongoing series against Australia.
He was unable to get started in Karachi, which had previously served as a fortress for him.
In the three-match Benaud-Qadir Trophy, Babar gave his thoughts on Fawad’s little slump.
“Fawad Alam is an experienced batter and I believe that he knows how to make a comeback,” he said.
