In his first game of the NBA playoffs, Stephen Curry returned from injury to lead the Golden State Warriors to a 123-107 victory over the Denver Nuggets.
Curry, who had missed the previous 12 games due to a sprained ankle ligament, came off the bench and scored 16 points in 22 minutes.
On his playoff debut, Jordan Poole, who began ahead of Curry, led the Warriors with 30 points.
Curry stated, “He’s proved he’s ready for pretty much any occasion.”
Klay Thompson, a Warriors teammate, added: “He’s simply amazing. What a future superstar.”
Poole’s tally tied him with Hall of Famer Mitch Richmond for the second-highest scoring play-off debut in Warriors history, trailing only Wilt Chamberlain’s 35 in 1960.
Nikola Jokic led the Nuggets with 25 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists.
On Monday, game two of the best-of-seven first-round series will be played.
The Utah Jazz beat the Dallas Mavericks 99-93 in the Western Conference playoffs, taking advantage of Luka Doncic’s absence.
Doncic was ruled out of the game due to a calf issue, and it is unclear whether he will be able to play in game two on Monday.
The Minnesota Timberwolves, who qualified through the play-ins, stunned the Memphis Grizzlies 130-117 in the series opener, while the Philadelphia 76ers won their first game against the Toronto Raptors this season with a 131-111 victory in the Eastern Conference playoff opener.
