Deepak Chahar’s injury issues could be about to get a whole lot worse. He has been ruled out of not only the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2022, but also in the near future.
He is unlikely to return to action for at least the next three months.
The 29-year-old pacer is out for 12 weeks, according to sources at the Chennai Super Kings and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), and it will be quite a feat if he makes it to the Twenty20 World Cup in Australia in October-November.
On February 20 of this year, he played his last professional game.
Chahar has an L5 injury in his back, according to a letter issued to the BCCI and CSK managements by the physios of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, where the player was receiving rehab, and recuperation will take a long time.
In fact, before resuming his recovery, the Rajasthan player will have to take a six-week break.
“He had been receiving treatment at the NCA after suffering a hamstring injury during a T20 match against West Indies at the Eden in Kolkata. He hoped to rejoin his IPL franchise in the second half”.
“However, while bowling, he suffered back pain, and examinations revealed that he had an L5 issue in his lower back “remarked by a CSK source.
Chahar’s absence has had a significant negative impact on the Super Kings’ season performance. The defending champions, who paid Rs 14 Crore for him, had a poor start to the season, losing four games in a row before winning their fifth game.
So yet, no replacement has been recruited
Meanwhile, the Chennai team management has stated that it has not sought a replacement for Chahar, whose power-play bowling has been crucial to the team’s recent success.
“We’ve delegated it to the team’s management, but they have yet to respond. We have yet to come across an Indian bowler of Deepak’s calibre “Kasi Viswanathan, the franchise’s CEO, told an International sports website.
According to the website, a couple of choices in Ishant Sharma and Dhawal Kulkarni were discussed, if not exactly. Statistically, neither of them can match Chahar’s performance.
In the power-play overs, Chahar has 42 wickets (average 28.85, economy rate 7.61) and Ishant has nine (avg 32.55, economy rate 6.65). With five wickets at an average of 73.40 and an economy rate of 8.34, Kulkarni is no match for either.
Meanwhile, despite the fact that Chahar would not be playing in the IPL, a BCCI official has stated that he will not forfeit any of his IPL earnings.
“The BCCI has insured all of the players’ IPL contracts and has been paying the premiums. Deepak will be able to recover the most, if not all, of the Rs 14 crore from insurance “according to the official.
