President of Liberia has advised Liverpool’s star strikers, Egyptian Mohamed Salah and Senegalese Sadio Mane, not to worry over winning the Ballon d’Or.

“Rather than obsessing on the Ballon d’Or, they (Salah and Mane) should focus on their performances and attempt to improve,” Liberia’s retired football great George Weah told a foreign sports channel.

Weah, the first and only African footballer to win the prestigious accolade in 1995, was quoted in African media as saying that “Liverpool’s duo must not put extra pressure on themselves”.

“I always worked hard to lift my family out of poverty, and that’s how I got the Ballon d’Or,” he concluded.

According to reports, the Liberian President pushed Salah and Mane to focus on improving their individual performances, especially with Liverpool in a tight race with Manchester City for the Premier League title.

Weah started his career in Liberia, the Ivory Coast, and Cameroon before migrating to Europe and playing for clubs like PSG, Monaco, Marseille, and AC Milan.

He also had brief stints with Chelsea and Manchester City before finishing his career with Al-Jazira Club in the United Arab Emirates.

Salah and Mane have been a crucial component of Liverpool’s success in recent years, helping them win the UEFA Champions League title in 2019 and qualifying for this year’s semifinal against Spanish club Villarreal, according to many analysts and commentators.
