Sanjay Bangar, the head coach of Royal Challengers Bangalore, has urged Virat Kohli to come back strong, adding that he is doing everything in his power, but that there comes a point in a player’s career when even the first edge is taken by fielders.

Kohli, who hasn’t scored a century in any format in over three years, has been dismissed for ducks in consecutive games, following a pattern of dismissals outside the off-stump.

“He (Kohli) has been a constant performer for the RCB. These are common occurrences for players. He had a great start to the season, almost hitting the game-winning run in Pune.”

“But then he had an odd run-out or the initial edge of his bat landed in the fielder’s hands”, according to Bangar, a long-serving India batting instructor.

Bangar dodged the question of Kohli needing a long rest because former Indian national team head coach Ravi Shastri believes he is “over-cooked.”

“He is, without a doubt, doing everything within his power. He’s working on his fitness and talents, taking frequent breaks, and not succumbing to the pressure.”

“He has been taking regular breaks and will continue to do so in the future”, he remarked.

Bangar defended Kohli vehemently, stating that he understood why people have strong feelings about him because he has been such an important player for India for so long.

“Even looking at the South Africa series, his 80-plus in one of the Test matches was a terrific inning,” Bangar observed.

Faf du Plessis, the captain of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), believes that losing four wickets for 20 runs in the first four overs was his team’s undoing.

“We shouldn’t have lost so many wickets in the first four overs; it was a little tense at the start.”

“Even if it means surrendering a few runs on the powerplay, we must find a way to create a foundation (in the following games) “, after the game, Du Plessis remarked.

“We simply needed to get through the swinging and seaming phase; once you get through that, things get a lot easier.”

“This one appeared to be the best. The stakes were enormous because it was a fantastic wicket. However, there are no justifications “, according to Du Plessis.
