To protest Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor’s factory egg farm, a lady entered the Minnesota Timberwolves’ home court Tuesday night and attempted to glue her hand to the floor.
According to a news statement from grassroots animal rights organization Direct Action Everywhere (DxE), the woman, Alicia Santurio, walked onto the court during the second quarter of the game and attempted to attach herself to the floor under the hoop.
“GLEN TAYLOR ROASTS ANIMALS ALIVE,” read the slogan on her shirt.
Soon after the incident, photos of Santurio being led off the court by security surfaced on social media, leaving a glue stain on the court.
“Unfortunately, the superglue didn’t attach firmly enough to the floor, and Alicia was torn off the floor by security,” a DxE spokeswoman told a foreign news channel.
The protest was supposedly held to raise awareness about a ‘mass massacre’ that DxE alleges occurred on Taylor’s Iowa farm.
“There’s no symbolic meaning here; it’s more of a way to make enough of a stir that people will notice and speak about in order to generate attention,” said DxE press coordinator Matt Johnson.
According to the news channel, Santurio was led out of the arena with a scrape on her hand.
The Timberwolves released a statement on Twitter about the incident late Tuesday night, saying:
“During the second quarter of tonight’s game, there was a fan interruption. To address the matter, we’ve reached out to Target Center Security.”
Following the incident, Santurio was soon dubbed “GlueGirl” on social media.
Carla Cabral, another protester, glued her left hand to a table with DxE on April 6, disrupting a session of the Assembly Agriculture Committee in Sacramento.
