Veteran Bangladesh cricketers died of brain tumor

Samiur Rahman, member of Bangladesh’s first ODI team, died on Tuesday in Dhaka.

Mosharraf Hossain, former national left-arm spinner, died in the evening of the same day after a protracted fight with a brain tumor.

Samiur, 69, was diagnosed with a brain tumor and dementia, and after his health worsened, he was admitted to a metropolitan hospital.

Samiur didn’t take a wicket in his two ODI appearances, but he is recognized as a key member of Bangladesh’s first-ever ODI side, which played Pakistan in the Asia Cup at Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, in 1986. Following his brief career as a footballer, Samiur worked as an umpire.

Mosharraf, 40, had previously been treated in Singapore, India, and other countries for a brain tumor that had been present for more than three years.

He only appeared in five One-Day Internationals for Bangladesh, but he was a seasoned local bowler with 572 wickets to his name.
