AC Milan leads Inter Milan by two points going into the final day of the Serie A season after both clubs won on Sunday.

AC Milan defeated Atalanta 2-0, putting them on the verge of winning their first Serie A title in 11 years thanks to Theo Hernandez’s spectacular goal.

With Rafael Leao having previously scored for the hosts, the French left-solo back’s run and finish triggered wild celebrations at a noisy San Siro.

Inter, on the other hand, beat Cagliari 3-1 to keep the pressure on.

Milan will win the Scudetto with a draw against Sassuolo next Sunday because they have a better head-to-head record versus their city rivals this season, while Inter must beat Sampdoria and hope Milan loses.

Milan had originally struggled to break through a well-organized Atalanta team chasing a European place in a tight match.

Junior Messias’ second-half substitution, on the other hand, paid off immediately.

Leao was let through on goal by the Brazilian’s second touch, and the Portugal forward fired an attempt through the legs of opposing goalkeeper Juan Musso to put Milan ahead.

While the hosts’ defence had a few nervous moments, Hernandez’s magnificent goal calmed everyone down.

Stefano Pioli’s team has now gone 15 games without losing in the league.

Inter would have won the title if they had not defeated Cagliari, but Simone Inzaghi’s team prevailed to take it down to the wire.

Inter took the lead through Matteo Darmian, and Lautaro Martinez increased the advantage with a precise finish.

Cagliari – and Milan – had a chance thanks to Charalampos Lykogiannis, but Martinez’s late dinked goal clinched the victory.
