On May 28, Liverpool will play Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Paris, which will be their final game of the 2021/22 season.

In the Premier League title fight, Jurgen Klopp’s side came up short, with Manchester City maintaining their crown with a thrilling final-day win over Aston Villa.

Klopp’s club has already won two domestic cups this season, but the possibility to win a seventh European Cup/Champions League in the French capital will provide extra motivation.

However, before naming his starting lineup against Los Blancos, the German coach will await late fitness news on many crucial players.

Fabinho

After suffering a thigh strain against Aston Villa on May 10, Fabinho missed Liverpool’s final three games of the season, including the FA Cup final victory over Chelsea.

Klopp has remained optimistic of his fitness for the final and the former Borussia Dortmund coach confirmed he will resume full training from May 24 after taking part in light sessions last week.

Thiago Alcantara
Thiago’s injury concern is the major worry for Klopp ahead of the final after the Spaniard was forced off at half time in their Premier League final day win over Wolves.

Klopp opted to withdraw the former Barcelona star at the break and he stated post match the 31-year-old is unlikely to be ready in time to face Real Madrid.

He will travel with the squad to Paris but the likely outcome for him is a place on the bench if he recovers partial fitness.

Mo Salah
Mo Salah limped off against Chelsea at Wembley, not wanting to take any chances in the Premier League’s closing stretch and the Champions League final.

Salah was introduced as a late substitution against Wolves, and his 23rd Premier League goal gave him a share of the Golden Boot with Son Heung-min, and he will start in Paris.

Van Dijk, Virgil
Van Dijk was also taken off in extra time against Thomas Tuchel’s Blues as a precaution, since the Dutch defender was suffering from a muscle problem.

Again, Klopp chose prudence over his star defender, rotating Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez as Joel Matip’s partners against Southampton and Wolves, but he returned to the matchday squad on the final day and will play with Salah.
