The Chinese Super League kick-off from June 3, as per state media. This time fans will also b allowed to witness the matches despite the strict Covid SOPs.

The tournament will be taking place three months after it was delayed due to Covid-19. Due to strict regulations, it will be played in three neutral cities only.

Analysts have expected to be empty stadiums at the start of the tournament. However, the organizers have allowed the spectators during the opening match between the defending champions Shandong Taishan and Zhejing in Haikou on June 3.

The other cities apart from Haikou will be Dalian and Meizhou. Liu said that local authorities have taken every possible measure to ensure no interruptions due to outbreaks.

As per local media, the players and staff have been quarantined for three weeks before entering each city’s bio-secure bubble.

“Organisers also expect that the local governments of the three host cities will open up important matches to fans,” Xinhua said, without saying how many fans would be allowed.

The CS will be featuring 18 clubs this season. However, Chongqing Liangjiang will not be taking part this year due to the huge debt caused by the pandemic.

Furthermore, China has withdrawn from the hosting rights for the Asian Games later this year in Hangzhou.

The country will also not be hosting the football’s Asian Cup despite spending millions of dollars on constructing eight stadiums and revolving the two old ones.
