After knee surgery, AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be out for up to eight months.
The 40-year-old Swedish international recently helped Milan win their first Serie A title since 2011, but his season was cut short by injuries.
Milan declared his left knee surgery a “perfect success.”
Ibrahimovic, whose contract with Milan expires in the summer, has previously expressed a wish to stay for at least another season.
However, his long layoff will now raise doubts about his future.
After winning the Scudetto during his first tenure at Milan, the former Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain striker returned to the San Siro in 2020.
While he only started 11 league games this season, he scored eight goals to help Milan win the Scudetto over Inter, another of his previous clubs and city rivals.
