Iga Swiatek, the world number one, successfully defended her Italian Open title by defeating Ons Jabeur 6-2 6-2.
The 20-year-old Pole has now won 28 games in a row and five tournaments in a row.
In both sets, she got out to a blazing start, denying Tunisia’s Jabeur, 27, many opportunities to get into her stride.
After a difficult road to the final, Jabeur appeared tired in the second set and battled with her serve.
“I’m going to make a bunch of tiramisu to celebrate!”
“See you at the French Open,” Swiatek joked in her on-court interview.
Last week, Jabeur made history by becoming the first African woman to win a WTA 1000 title in Madrid, breaking Swiatek at 4-0 in the second set to win two games in a row.
Swiatek saved three break points to stall Jabeur’s momentum – and then fell to her knees in tears on the winning championship point.
Despite ending his personal 11-match winning streak, Jabeur will ascend to a career-high position of sixth in the world.
“We’ve had a wonderful run on clay,” Jabeur remarked as she accepted her prize. “We’ll learn from this match and move forward.”
