According to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, the Champions League final against Real Madrid is not about avenging the Spanish side’s victory in 2018.

The final in Paris on Saturday is a rematch of the final in Kyiv four years ago, which Madrid won 3-1.

Forward Liverpool have a “score to settle,” according to Mohamed Salah, who was hurt in that match following a skirmish with Sergio Ramos.

“This was a difficult night for us,” Klopp remarked.

“However, I don’t believe in revenge and don’t think it’s a great idea,” he continued.

“I understand Mo’s point of view; he wants to make things right. However, in Germany, we say that everything happens twice.

“It will be a beautiful narrative if we win it this time, but it will not be because of what happened in 2018.”

Salah made his remarks after Real Madrid stunned Manchester City in the semi-finals. He added he was “motivated through the roof after what occurred the last time” on Wednesday.

With goals from Karim Benzema and two from Gareth Bale, including a magnificent overhead kick, the Spanish champions won in 2018.

Salah was left in tears after injuring his shoulder in the 30th minute after being tackled by Ramos, who has since joined Paris St-Germain.

Liverpool won the European Cup a year later in Madrid, defeating Tottenham in the final.
