Marcell Jacobs stated on Sunday that he will compete in the Kip Keino Classic, a World Athletics Continental Gold Tour event in Nairobi, in his first 100m since winning the Olympic gold.
“May 7. 100m. Nairobi Kenya. Let’s goo!!,” he wrote on Twitter.

Jacobs will face American Fred Kerley, who finished second in Tokyo, and Kenyan Ferdinand Omanyala.
He was supposed to begin his 100m season on May 28 in Eugene, Oregon, as part of the American round of the Diamond League, on the same track where the World Championships will be held in July.
Jacobs’ coach Paolo Camossi told the Italian press that they had considered running a 100m in Tokyo on Sunday, but that “the trip would have been long and there was a seven-hour time difference,” which they thought would be too taxing in such a difficult season.
Nairobi was chosen as a more logistically feasible choice.
“All the indications are that Marcell is already in very good shape,” said Camossi.
“I have no reservations about making him run a lot. And having two runs in his legs before the big meeting in Eugene can only be good for him.”
Following Nairobi, Jacobs will compete in the 200m at a meet in Savona, Italy, on May 18th, as planned.
Last year, the 27-year-old Italian sprinter created a stir in Tokyo by unexpectedly winning two gold (100m and 4x100m relay) before having his season cut short.
He only participated in the 60 metres indoors in 2022, capturing the world championship title in March in Belgrade by defeating defending champion Christian Coleman.
