Sky Bet Championship: Luton vs Huddersfield playoff match tied

Luton Town drew 1-1 with Huddersfield Town in the first leg of their Sky Bet Championship play-off semi-final.

The Terriers took the lead after Danel Sinani was discovered by Harry Toffolo.

Later in the half, Luton equalized through Sonny Bradley, who scored following a Kal Naismith free-kick, ensuring it’s all to play for when Town travel to the John Smith’s Stadium on Monday.

Nathan Jones picked the same starting lineup that beat Reading 1-0 on the last day of the regular season.

After returning to Town’s lineup against the Royals on Saturday, James Bree held his spot.

The only alteration was on the replacements’ bench, where Admiral Muskwe was replaced by Peter Kioso.

After three minutes, Town’s first chance arrived as Bree’s stinging attempt stung Lee Nicholls’ fingertips in the Huddersfield goal.

However, it would be the visitors who would take the lead after just 12 minutes. Matt Ingram was beaten at his near post by Sinani’s low effort.

Town would draw level on the half-hour mark after a good run of possession. Bradley equalized after a wonderful ball in from Naismith was greeted by a first-time strike by Naismith.

The next Town player to come close was Cameron Jerome. With a fantastic curling effort, the attacker almost struck the top corner, but it went just wide of the post.

Following the restart, the Terriers had the first shot on goal. Danny Ward’s shot was deflected for a corner, and the Hatters were eventually able to clear their lines.

Jordan Clark tried his luck with a daring long-range volley, but Nicholls was unconcerned.

Jones made his first change of the match shortly after the hour mark, replacing Henri Lansbury with Tom Lockyer.

The second half was tense, with neither team able to create any clear-cut chances.

With ten minutes remaining, Town made their second substitution of the game, with Danny Hylton replacing Reece Burke.

For the Hatters, Clark had another long-distance effort, but his curling effort was off target.

Robert Snodgrass replaced Jerome as Town’s third and final replacement of the game.

Jones’ side will travel to Huddersfield on Monday night for the second leg and a place at Wembley if the game ends in a draw.
