Stan Smith, a two-time Grand Slam singles champion, will be honored by the International Tennis Federation for his contributions to the sport on and off the court.

Stan Smith, a former tennis player, is set to retire in 2021.

The American won the US Open in 1971 and Wimbledon the following year, as well as five Grand Slam doubles titles. He was a member of seven Davis Cup winning teams.

In addition to coaching great players like Lindsay Davenport, Jennifer Capriati, and Michael Chang, the 75-year-old also served as president of the ITF Hall of Fame from 2011 to 2021.

His name is featured on a popular Adidas footwear line.

Smith stated in a statement, “I competed incredibly hard and came through in some critical situations, didn’t come through in some big ones.”

“You are not going to win every match, game, or tournament you participate in, but you must give it your all and look back with no regrets.”
