
The UEFA Champions League finals that have gone to penalties after extra time, ahead of what is expected to be a tough match between Liverpool and Real Madrid.
Since the beginning of the Champions League/European Cup events, sixteen finals have gone to extra time to determine who is the best team in Europe, with 11 of those matches still knotted at 120 minutes and requiring a penalty shootout.
Real Madrid defeated city rivals Atletico Madrid in the 2015-16 Champions League final, which went to a penalty shootout.
Liverpool, their opponents in this year’s final, has won two Champions League final penalty shootouts, the most recent of which was a historic victory after coming back from 3-0 down against AC Milan in regular time in 2004-5.
