Alycia Baumgardner and Mikaela Mayer have agreed to meet later this year in a super-featherweight unification bout.
WBO, IBF, and Ring magazine champion Mayer is 31, while WBC and IBO champion Baumgardner is 28.
Top Rank, Mayer’s promoters, will oversee the event, which is expected to take place in the United States.
Top Rank’s Bob Arum commented, “Mikaela Mayer’s remarkable talent is only equaled by her tremendous ambition.”
“Alycia Baumgardner is a legitimate champion, and she wants the biggest fights.”
“This is a significant event and one of the most anticipated bouts in women’s boxing,” says chevalier.
The announcement comes after months of back-and-forth on social media between Mayer and Baumgardner.
Mayer is unbeaten in 17 professional fights, while Baumgardner, who has only one loss, pulled off one of the biggest upsets of 2021 by knocking out Terri Harper of the United Kingdom in Sheffield in November to win the WBC title.
The battle joins a growing list of interesting women’s fights set to take place this year, including an undisputed middleweight showdown between Savannah Marshall and Claressa Shields, as well as Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano.
