Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has suggested that the Gunners don’t even deserve to participate in the Europa League next season after their chances of qualifying for the Champions League were shattered.
Arsenal defeated 2-0 against Newcastle on Monday, putting Tottenham in pole position to finish fourth and qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Spurs will finish above Arsenal for the sixth year in a row if they draw at Norwich City on Sunday.
Arsenal came up short against Newcastle, who are 20 points behind them in the Premier League table.
Gunners got exactly what they deserved after a Ben White own goal and a late Bruno Guimaraes winner.
In a post-game interview, Xhaka, former Arsenal captain, accused his colleagues of lacking “balls.”
Xhaka also stated that some Arsenal players had disobeyed manager Mikel Arteta’s orders.
“Finding the correct words is challenging,” Xhaka told.
“We didn’t deserve to be on the pitch from the first minute to the last.”
“I’m sorry, but I’m not sure why. We failed to follow the game strategy and failed to listen to the coach. What transpired was a complete tragedy.”
“You have no right to compete in the Champions League or even the Europa League. It’s quite difficult to handle right now.”
“I’m not sure why we’re not following the coach’s instructions.”
Xhaka was then asked if Arsenal’s young squad’s lack of experience was a role in their dismal performance.
He responded,“Stay at home if someone isn’t ready for this game. It makes no difference your age. Stay on the bench or at home if you’re nervous.”
“People must have the courage to come here and play. For us, it’s one of the most crucial games. “I’m sorry to them [fans], I don’t have any more words for them.”
“The dressing room is quite peaceful. The strategy was completely different than what we performed in 90 minutes.”
“We’ve been out of the Champions League for six years now. Everything was in our hands. We appeared to be in the same position as Newcastle, and they appeared to be in the same position as us,” he remarked.
