Dustin Johnson is a professional golfer from the United States who competes on the PGA Tour. He has two major championships to his credit.
As it aims to entice great players with hefty payments, LIV Golf has become a looming danger to the PGA Tour. The field for the inaugural tournament of the LIV Golf Invitational Series suggests that it will attract at least a few famous names.
The firm announced the players that will compete in the tournament on Tuesday, which will take place from June 9 to 11 at the Centurion Club in London. Dustin Johnson, the world’s 13th-ranked golfer, was at the top of the list.
Is your name missing from the list? Phil Mickelson, whose early support for the Saudi Arabia-based league, as well as his inflammatory statements about it, caused him to take a break from golf for a while.
The most glaring exclusion is Mickelson, who is the most well-known name on the list. However, there are a slew of other well-known names on the list.
LIV Golf announced a field of 42 competitors. Louis Oosthuiszen, Kevin Na, Talor Gooch, and Sergio Garcia are among the top 100 golfers in the world. Chase Koepka, Brooks Koepka’s brother, is named as a competitor. Turk Pettit, the NCAA men’s individual champion in 2021, is also on the list.

PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan has already threatened to ban any golfers who left for LIV Golf from the PGA Tour.
Johnson had previously stated that he was “fully-committed to the PGA Tour” in a statement released in February. David Winkle, his agent, stated that the commitment is no longer as strong as it once was.
“Dustin has been thinking about it off and on over the past couple of years,” Winkle said of the prospect. “Finally, he determined that pursuing it was in his and his family’s best interests. Dustin has never had a problem with the PGA Tour and is grateful for everything it has provided him, but this opportunity was too good to pass up.”

The RBC Canadian Open, which Johnson won last year, will be held concurrently in London. Johnson’s participation in the LIV tournament was “disappointed to learn,” according to the RBC Canadian Open.

RBC also discontinued its sponsorship of Johnson on Wednesday, an agreement that the two parties agreed to in February of 2018. They’ve also cut connections with Graeme McDowell, their only other sponsored player who has elected to compete in the LIV event.
“Free agency has finally come to golf,” said LIV CEO and commissioner Greg Norman in a statement. He believes the new series will “alter the course of history” by bringing “fresh and open competition” to golf.
“The players’ enthusiasm for LIV Golf indicates their unwavering faith in our model and confidence in what we’re creating for the future,” Norman added.
