Jordan Cox stunned Somerset in the 2021 Blast Final with an unbeaten 58 from 28 balls and a candidate for catch of the century. With 94 off 47 balls, a statistician-pleasing strike-rate of 200, and, most importantly, Kent’s title defence finally up and running, he had a Taunton crowd scrambling for cover.

Somerset struggled to 44 for 3 on the powerplay in response to Kent’s 202 for 7 total. Will Smeed, Tom Banton, and Rilee Rossouw had all come and gone, leaving them limping and waiting to be put down.

As the Group nears the halfway point, meaningful glances can be exchanged at the table. Kent fans will be disappointed: this was only their second win of the season. However, in this format, momentum is everything, and if the Spitfires can find it, reaching the quarter-finals is not out of the question. Somerset had theirs checked, but they are still in an excellent position.

Denly and Jordan Cox were steady but lacked fluency. Even so, on such a small scale, they ticked along nicely. When Overton returned, they had added 89 for the third wicket. Abell frequently turns to his captain when a partnership needs to be broken, and he did so with Denly on 41 off 36 balls.
