Lisandro Martinez is an option for Arteta following another successful season in the Dutch capital. He has an old-school defensive profile, with strong passing and tackling stats based on his Ajax data.

Arsenal had a mediocre defensive Premier League record in 2021/22. Conceding 48 goals in 38 games and ranking eighth in goals against in the top tier.

Despite placing 13th on the x/GA chart, Arteta is unlikely to change his defensive game strategy. With Gabriel Magalhaes and Ben White his first choice combination, with 35 and 32 Premier League starts, respectively.

Despite matching Magalhaes and White in age and general experience, Martinez’s adaptability makes him an attractive target.

According to The Athletic, a prospective move is still in the early stages of discussions, with Ajax already rejecting a £25 million (€29 million/$30.5 million) approach in order to press for a larger fee.

Arteta may face competition from Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.  His profile suits what Arsenal requires. And the Gunners are ready to get him.
