The news that Sasha Banks is leaving the WWE after a decade in the ring has shocked the wrestling world.

Sasha Banks’ anticipated departure from WWE comes less than a month after she and tag-team partner Naomi staged a walkout from Raw on May 16, earning them indefinite suspensions without pay.

WWE fans have expressed their support for Banks on social media, with one fan writing, “Sasha Banks doesn’t need WWE, WWE needs Sasha Banks.”

Here’s what we know about Banks’ wrestling future—and what we don’t.

We have no official word on the status of Banks’ contract because neither she nor the WWE have confirmed the rumors.

Wrestling Inc. owner Raj Giri started the story by tweeting: “Sasha Banks, I’ve heard, has been released. I’m not sure if she requested that or if it was a WWE decision.”

This tweet rapidly polarized the wrestling industry, with some believing he was “purposefully fed BS” and others pointing out prior Giri scoops that proved out to be accurate.

Giri was the first to disclose that Ric Flair had been released from his WWE contract in August 2021, for example.

Giri also placed his professional reputation on the line with the scoop, telling a fan, “If I’m incorrect, I’m out as far as breaking news, and I won’t seek it or do it again.”

“I spoke with Raj this afternoon and asked WWE about this,” fellow WWE reporter Sean Ross Sapp reposted Giri’s post.

They indicated they hadn’t heard that as of this evening, and talent relations didn’t seem to know either.

“Not to say it didn’t or isn’t happen, but this is what I’ve heard so far when I’ve inquired. Raj has a lot of connections.”

There have been indications that the WWE is no longer interested in Banks and Naomi.

Both of their official Facebook sites have been deactivated, and all of their merchandise has been deleted from the WWE store. They are also no longer included in the show’s opening titles.

Naomi retaliated by removing all references to the corporation from her Twitter bio, something Banks has not done, despite the fact that she has not posted since mid-May.

The news comes as the pair’s contracts are slated to expire in the coming months, according to reports.

Some Twitter users, on the other hand, were skeptical of the rumor.

One Twitter user summed up the skepticism: “I’m sitting here giggling at everyone’s outrage over the Sasha Banks allegation. That’s just what the WWE wants you to do.”

After all, the news comes just hours after it was revealed that the WWE board of directors was looking into a payment made by CEO Vince McMahon to a former female employee.

Following her performance in Disney+’s The Mandalorian, Banks hinted at a move into Hollywood.

Last year, she told: “Now I’m in a whole new Hollywood world, and everything is going great. I’m ecstatic for the fans, and I can’t wait for them to see what’s coming up next.”
