Jofra Archer makes his long-awaited comeback to the England team as part of the team’s 14-member roster announced on Thursday for the three-match ODI series in South Africa that gets underway in January.

Jofra rejoins the England team for the first time since March 2021 after being sidelined by ailments and undergoing procedures to address the issue.

The ECB stated in a press statement that “he is recuperating well from an elbow injury and is set to return to international cricket in South Africa next month.”

Reece Topley has also been included after recovering well from the ankle injury that forced him to withdraw from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia earlier this year.

According to the press release, Topley is on schedule to be ready for the three-match series and is recovering well from his left ankle injury.

In the meantime, Harry Brook, who has been playing well, has received his first ODI call-up. Ben Duckett, who recently led England to a 3-0 victory over Pakistan in a Test match, is also back in the ODI lineup for the first time since 2016.

Jos Buttler will be the captain of a team that has several well-known players and a potent pace attack with many all-rounders. The team also includes Olly Stone, David Willey, Sam Curran, and Chris Woakes in addition to Topley and Archer, who are all back. The team’s spinners are Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid.

Jonny Bairstow is still recovering from the injury he suffered playing golf before the T20 World Cup. The top-order choices still include Dawid Malan, Jason Roy, Phil Salt, Harry Brook, and Ben Duckett.

Beginning on January 27, a three-match series will serve as essential practise for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, which will take place in India later in the year. The series will be crucial for South Africa, which is now 11th in the Cricket World Cup Super League standings and has not yet confirmed its participation in the competition.

Jos Buttler (captain), Moeen Ali, Jofra Archer, Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Ben Duckett, Dawid Malan, Adil Rashid, Jason Roy, Phil Salt, Olly Stone, Reece Topley, David Willey, and Chris Woakes are the members of the England ODI squad.
