Muhammad Rizwan says no store in his country accepts his money
- Mohammad Rizwan, Pakistan’s wicketkeeper and batsman, won the T20 World Cup 2021 against India.
- It was the first time Pakistan had ever beaten India in the World Cup.
- Pakistan’s victory was due in large part to a devastating spell by Shaheen Shahid Afridi.
Mohammad Rizwan, Pakistan’s wicketkeeper and batsman, recently reflected on his life-altering victory over India in the T20 World Cup 2021.
The legend told Mike Atherton that he thought the game was “simply a match” afterward, but when they got back to Pakistan, he saw how much it meant to the people there.
The cricketer added that he was born in Peshawar and that no store in his home country would accept his money. I remember them telling me, ‘You go, you go. I’m not going to take any of your money!” he exclaimed.
Remember that Pakistan, captained by Babar Azam, won the first game of the T20 World Cup 2021 by defeating the Men in Blue by 10 wickets. That was the first time Pakistan had ever beaten India in the World Cup.
Pakistan’s victory was due in large part to a devastating spell by Shaheen, who claimed three important wickets, and an unbroken opening pair from Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan.
There were three Twenty20 Internationals played between the two countries this year; two were played at the Asia Cup, and one was played at the T20 World Cup 2022. India won two of the T20Is, while Pakistan won the Asia Cup Super 4s match.
