Najam Sethi wished domestic cricket to be as well-known as PSL
- Najam Sethi has been appointed as the new chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board.
- He will head a 14-member commission to monitor PCB activities for 120 days.
- The ex-chairman of the PCB spoke to the media in Lahore on Wednesday.
Najam Sethi, chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) management committee, the PCB’s primary objective is to implement changes to domestic cricket in order to turn it into a major brand like the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
A monumental change occurred on Wednesday when Sethi succeeded Ramiz Raja as chairman of cricket’s governing body after receiving approval from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The government, controlled by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), appointed Sethi to head a 14-member commission to monitor PCB activities for 120 days leading up to the 2014 constitution election period.
The ex-chairman of the PCB spoke to the media in Lahore “We plan to implement the necessary adjustments in the next three to four months to revitalize departmental and regional cricket. Four elected delegates from each department and each area, plus two appointees from the prime minister, will make up the board. After new board members are elected, business will resume as usual. This is the plan we have for improving cricket in the home country.”
Sethi has stated that it is difficult to play domestic cricket in Pakistan.
“The domestic cricket system has to be revamped. A severe food shortage has persisted for the past four years. In the past four years, how many players have come up through the ranks of domestic cricket to join the national team? Very few cricketers appear to be emerging from domestic cricket, and those that do are not given enough opportunities to succeed. What we’re facing here is a significant obstacle. The same effort that we put into making the PSL a global phenomenon should be applied to improving local cricket “According to what he had to say.
He mentioned that the committee is hoping for a positive environment for the upcoming Test series in New Zealand.
“I’m writing to let you know that a cricket team has been selected to compete in the upcoming series. Whether or whether it’s acceptable to make adjustments is something I’m unsure of. We haven’t made any choice yet, but we’ll talk about it and see what happens “Moreover, he said.
On December 26, 2018 at the National Bank Cricket Arena, Pakistan and New Zealand will play the first Test match between the two countries.
Multan Cricket Stadium will host the second Test between the two teams from January 3 to 7.
The Black Caps will play three One-Day Internationals in Karachi from January 10-14, following the end of the Test series.
