New Zealand names different captains for tours of Pakistan and India

• Williamson and Latham will captain New Zealand’s ODI teams for visits of Pakistan and India.
• Henry Shipley received his first call-up for the tour of India and Pakistan.
• Gary Stead and Shane Jurgensen will return after the Pakistan series.

On Sunday, New Zealand announced their ODI teams for the visits of Pakistan and India. Kane Williamson and Tom Latham, two separate captains, will lead their nation in the two different series.

Latham will take over as the squad’s captain for the India series while Williamson is rested and will lead the New Zealand team for the ODIs in Pakistan.

All-rounder Henry Shipley received his first call-up, and leg-spinner Ish Sodhi and middle-order batsman Henry Nicholls were reinstated to the ODI squad selected for the two tours.

Gary Stead and Shane Jurgensen will return after the Pakistan series, and Luke Ronchi, a former Black Caps player, will serve as the series’ head coach for the three-match ODI series against India in January.

Shipley, a right-arm fast and middle-order hitter who is 26 years old, has been in excellent form in domestic cricket.
