For the first time since May 2002, New Zealand will take the field in a Test match in Pakistan. The Black Caps have won 7 of their previous 8 games against Pakistan, despite being soundly defeated by them the last time they faced them in Pakistan. On the other hand, Pakistan is coming off a humiliating 3-0 home victory against England and would like to rebound.

In tests this year, Babar Azam has been his team’s best hitter, amassing more than 1000 runs at an average of 67. For Pakistan this year, Babar has scored 3 centuries and 7 half-centuries. Imam-ul-Haq has also been dependable, scoring 717 runs, while Abdullah Shafique has scored 799 runs (3×100, 2×50) (3×100, 2×50).

With 18 wickets in 5 matches, the young gun Naseem Shah has led Pakistan in Test wicket-taking this year. Abrar Ahmed, who has already taken 17 wickets in just two games with a 5-wicket haul, was a gem in the series against England. In 2022, Nauman Ali also made a contribution with 15 wickets.

Kane Williamson, the captain of New Zealand and a middle-order hitter, resigned as Test captain but will still bat for the Kiwis. Tom Blundell scored 597 runs in seven matches, while Daryl Mitchell scored 641 runs in six matches (3×100, 3×50) for the Kiwis this year (1×100, 5×50). Additionally, Devon Conway has 539 runs in 7 games (2×100, 2×50).

Tim Southee, who has taken 25 wickets in 7 games this year, will be captaining the Test team. Trent Boult has taken 25 wickets this year as well, although he isn’t in the team since he was let go from his national contract. Kyle Jamieson is also absent because Matt Henry, Ajaz Patel, Ish Sodhi, Blair Tickner, and Neil Wagner will make up the New Zealand bowling assault.
