PCB appointed Shahid Afridi as interim chief selector
Shahid Khan Afridi, a former all-rounder, has been named the Pakistan men’s team’s interim chief selector.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has a new management committee, which has named an interim selection committee.
Afridi, who said the other day on a local news channel that he wanted a permanent position on the board, will be in charge of the selection committee. Abdul Razzaq and Rao Iftikhar Anjum will be on the committee as well. The meeting will be led by Haroon Rashid, who is also a member of the PCB management committee.
The committee will choose the ODI team for the home series against New Zealand, which will take place in Karachi in January of next year.
Najam Sethi, who is the head of the management committee, liked the interim choice and is looking forward to some brave and bold decisions.
“I welcome the interim men’s national selection committee and have no doubts that despite limited time, they will make brave and bold decisions that will help us produce a strong and competitive side in the series against New Zealand.
“Shahid Afridi has been an attacking cricketer who played all his cricket with no fear. He has nearly 20 years of cricket experience, has featured in all formats with significant success, and, more importantly, has always backed and supported young talent. So, in our collective opinion, there is no better person than him to understand the rigours, demands and challenges of the modern day game,” he said.
Afridi, on the other hand, thanked Sethi for having faith in him. “I feel honoured to have been assigned this responsibility by the PCB management committee and will leave no stone unturned in fulfilling this responsibility to the best of my abilities,” he said.
