Pelé’s health improves, but he remains in hospital

According to a statement released by doctors at the Albert Einstein hospital on Monday, Brazilian soccer legend Pelé is making progress following his hospitalization to address a lung infection that was made worse by COVID-19.

Since the 29th of November, Pelé has been a patient at the hospital, and his doctors have stated that they are still unsure of when he will be released from the facility.

In recent months, Pele, whose real name is Edson Arantes do Nascimento, has struggled with health issues. Since September 2021, when a tumour was removed from his colon, he has received routine hospital care.

According to a statement released by the medical centre, he is “aware and has stable vital signs.” In addition to his three victories in the World Cup, Pelé is currently undergoing chemotherapy for his battle against cancer.

Pele, a striker for Brazil, Santos, and the New York Cosmos, is regarded as one of the greatest football players of all time. He contributed to Brazil’s World Cup victories in 1958, 1962, and 1970. With 77 goals scored in 92 matches, he is the Brazilian team’s all-time leading scorer.

Fans from all across the globe have written him letters of encouragement. Additionally, buildings in Qatar, which will host the 2022 FIFA World Cup, have shown well-wishes for a swift recovery.
