Caroline Garcia of France defeated qualifier Katerina Siniakova 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 in 2 hours and 15 minutes to move to the quarterfinals of the Adelaide International 2.

Garcia has won six straight matches, including the United Cup last week and the WTA Finals Fort Worth championship at the end of 2022. In the last eight matches, she will play No. 8 seed Belinda Bencic in an effort to win her seventh match.

Garcia used to struggle a lot with Siniakova, a player. Garcia had not defeated the Czech until the second round of the 2016 US Open; the Czech held a 4-2 head-to-head advantage going into the match, including the last three in a row.

In an effort to make amends, the Frenchwoman sprinted to a 5-0 lead without encountering a game point. Although it was too late to save the set, Siniakova saved the first three set points she faced, all on Garcia’s serve at 5-1, and the rhythm she developed helped her perform well in the second set.

Garcia’s serve, which produced a total of 14 aces, was a key weapon the entire time. In the sixth game of the second set, a trio of them assisted her in avoiding the first break point. Serving at 3-4, Garcia’s forehand made a series of errors that gave the World No. 48 the victory. However, she was unable to convert a pair on Siniakova’s serve in the following game.

Following breaking Siniakova after a five-deuce struggle and taking a 3-0 lead in the third set, the 29-year-old Garcia seemed to have regained composure. However, good down-the-line performance allowed Siniakova to tie the game at 3-3, and then a series of quick holds occurred.

When she needed it, Garcia was the one who boosted her skill level. At 6-5, she earned her first match points after another return winner, and she won the third one with a backhand crosscourt, her 42nd victory of the match compared to Siniakova’s 21.
