David Silva scored goals as Real Sociedad defeated Almeria 2-0
David Silva scored goals as Real Sociedad defeated Almeria 2-0 on Sunday, closing the gap on league leaders Barcelona and Real Madrid to six points.
The veteran Spanish playmaker, 37, took advantage of defensive confusion in the box to nip in and score just after halftime.
Former Manchester City midfielder Silva started the move with a brilliant pass that put Take Kubo in down the right.
Five minutes later, Alexander Sorloth drilled home his sixth league goal of the season to extend La Real’s lead at the Power Horse Stadium.
The Norwegian forward received a pass from Mikel Merino and cut into the area before beating Fernando Martinez at the near post.
Imanol Alguacil’s side were not at their best without the suspended Brais Mendez, but they still managed to inflict Almeria’s first home defeat since September, dropping them to 14th place.
Kubo, a Japan international, impressed up front for Sorloth this season, continuing his own comeback.
The win gives Alguacil’s team a boost of confidence ahead of the Basque derby against Athletic Bilbao next weekend.
La Real has 32 points from 16 games, five more than fourth-place Atletico Madrid, who hosts leaders Barcelona later Sunday.
