Hardik Pandya says ‘Everyone in the team is praying for Pant’s speedy recovery’

The wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is now being treated in a hospital in Dehradun after being involved in a terrible automobile accident a few days ago. India T20 skipper Hardik Pandya remarked on Monday that the entire team is hoping and praying for the wicketkeeper-batter.

The decision to rest Pant for the six-match white-ball series against Sri Lanka, which begins with the first T20I match at the Wankhede stadium here on Tuesday, was not immediately felt by the team, according to Pandya. However, given the type of player the Delhi wicketkeeper batter is, India will suffer greatly for however long he is absent.

“What happened is very unfortunate. No one has control over that. As a team, we wish him all the best. Our love and prayers are always with him, and we hope that he has a speedy recovery,” Pandya said during a press conference here on Monday, ahead of the first T20I against Sri Lanka.

When asked what effect Pant’s accident will have on India’s World Cup preparations, Pandya responded that they can’t control it. Given the type of player Pant is, he claimed that his addition to the team will have a significant impact.

“Coming to the point (impact on plans for the World Cup)…obviously he was part of the team and his role was very important. Obviously, everyone knows where the situation stands and there are a lot of people who can get an opportunity through this. I am saying if Rishabh was also there, it would have made a big difference, because of the kind of player he is. No, obviously he is not there and we can’t control it so, we can see what the future has in store for us to go forward with it,” said Pandya.

Pant, 25, sustained several injuries after his car hit with a road divider and caught fire on the Delhi-Dehradun highway early on Friday morning. In the Uttarakhand state’s Haridwar district, between Manglaur and Narsan, a horrifying automobile accident occurred.

Pant is currently a patient at Max Hospital in Dehradun, and on Monday, he was transferred from the ICU to a private room. He was travelling in his Mercedes automobile from New Delhi to his birthplace of Roorkee.
