Hockey World Cup: FIH proposes plans to empower National Associations
The International Hockey Federation’s Executive Board (EB) on Saturday authorised a groundbreaking project that aims to strengthen relationships with and give power to National Associations (NAs) all over the world.
More hockey grounds, improved coaching, more opportunities to compete, and more resources to support National Associations are just a few of the concrete steps that the FIH will roll out in its core emphasis areas. The actions will soon be put into practise.
Under the leadership of FIH President Tayyab Ikram, the FIH used the FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023 as an excuse to host its first meeting of the year on Saturday in Bhubaneswar. A few of the presidents of national associations in Bhubaneswar were invited to join the conference at its beginning and engage in conversation with the EB members.
The FIH President began the meeting by expressing the profound appreciation of the EB to the government of Odisha, Hockey India, and the FIH team for their excellent effort and dedication in organising such a fantastic FIH Hockey Men’s World Cup. He continued, “Hockey, hockey, and more hockey!” had been the focus of his first 60 days in his new position.
Additionally, Tayyab Ikram informed the EB that he engaged in extensive consultation with athletes, Continental Federations, National Associations, the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and the FIH team in particular during his first weeks as FIH President.
“With development being at the heart of the FIH mission, the EB approved a first-of-a-kind project aiming at better engaging with and empowering the National Associations (NAs) around the world,” the FIH informed in a release on Saturday.
To cover more inclusion topics than gender, the EB has decided to rename the Women in Sports Committee into “Gender Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee”.
Furthermore, the EB members received detailed reports and updates about a wide range of topics, including hockey development, finance, events, sports, commercials, broadcast or marketing communications.
