Najam Sethi expressed support for Shahid Afridi for national squad

• Afridi received great praise from Sethi.

Najam Sethi, chairman of the management committee for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has expressed support for interim chief selector Shahid Afridi for the national squad.

Former Pakistan captain Afridi was named interim chair of the selection committee for the home ODI series against New Zealand by the PCB management committee led by Sethi.

Haroon Rashid (also a member of the management committee) will serve as the panel’s Convener, with Abdul Razzaq and Rao Iftikhar Anjum.

Afridi received great praise from Sethi, the former head of PCB, who called him a “bold and magnificent” player.

According to News sources, Sethi gushed about the committee member, saying, “He’s very popular, he’s the kind of guy we want on the selection committee who can take bold judgements.”

Sethi added that the national squad would compete honourably.

To finalise the ODI team to face New Zealand, Afridi and his committee met with head coach Saqlain Mushtaq and captain Babar Azam on Sunday.

It is important to remember that Pakistan’s cricket chief Ramiz Raja was fired days after the national side suffered its first-ever 3-0 home series whitewash at the hands of England, as stated in a government notification.

The shift was expected ever since April, when Imran Khan, a former national captain, was replaced as prime minister by Shehbaz Sharif.

In September 2021, Raja, who played on Khan’s World Cup-winning team in 1992, was named chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
