Indian pacer Mohammed Shami was ordered by a court in Kolkata on Monday to pay his estranged wife Hasin Jahan Rs. 1.30 lakh (INR) each month in alimony.
Out of the (INR) Rs 1.30 lakh, Rs 50,000 would go toward Hasin Jahan’s personal alimony, while the rest Rs 80,000 will go toward their daughter’s upkeep, who is living with her.
Hasin Jahan filed a lawsuit in 2018 asking the court for Hasan to pay her (INR) Rs 10 lakh a month in alimony, of which Rs 7,00,000 would go for her own support and the remaining Rs 3,00,000 would go toward their daughter’s upkeep.
Her attorney Mriganka Mistry informed the court that the Indian pacer’s annual revenue for the fiscal year 2020–1 was over (INR) Rs 7 crore and that the demand for a monthly alimony payment of Rs 10 lakhs was thus not unreasonable.
Selim Rahman, the attorney for Shami, said that Hasin Jahan’s demand for such a significant sum of alimony was unjustified because she had a reliable source of income from her employment as a professional fashion model.
Finally, the lower court set the monthly alimony payment at Rs 1.30 lakh on Monday after hearing from both parties. Hasin Jahan acknowledged her gratitude for the court’s order, but asserted that a bigger alimony payment would have made her feel more relieved. The Indian pacer did not respond to this count till the report was submitted.
