Sisanda and Jansen return to ODI squad against England
The men’s South African team for the upcoming ODI series against England, which will start on January 27, was unveiled on Wednesday.
The 16-member team for the three-game ODI series will be coached by Temba Bavuma. These one-day internationals are a part of the 2020–23 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League, which awards points toward the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.
Returning to the ODI lineup are Sisanda Magala and Marco Jansen, who will work to bolster the pace battery that includes Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Anrich Nortje, and Wayne Parnell.
South Africa will attempt to move past its appalling recent results, which included failure to perform at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and a 0-3 defeat in the Test series Down Under.
Shukri Conrad, the Proteas’ recently hired red-ball coach, will be in charge of this series. He will collaborate alongside Rob Walter, the new white-ball coach, whose appointment will take effect on February 1, 2023.
“The selection panel is particularly excited by the depth of this squad, with a mix of youth and experience. We are confident that this group of players will take us one step closer to qualifying for the ICC Men’s World Cup in India later this year,” said Convenor of Selectors Victor Mpitsang.
“We are also pleased with the inclusion of Sisanda and the commitment he has shown to meet the fitness standards required for national selection.
The three-match series against England will kickstart our international home season following months on the road, and we would like to wish Temba and Shukri well in what will no doubt be an exciting series against quality opposition,” he added.
Squad: Temba Bavuma (c), Quinton de Kock, Heinrich Klaasen, Rassie van der Dussen, Keshav Maharaj, Reeza Hendricks, Marco Jansen, Sisanda Magala, Janneman Malan, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Lungi Ngidi, Anrich Nortje, Wayne Parnell, Kagiso Rabada, Tabraiz Shamsi.
